The Dougy Center

The Dougy Center provides support in a safe place for children, teens, young adults, and their families who are grieving a death by allowing children and their families to share their experiences through peer support groups and education. The Center recently designed and constructed a new 12,000 square foot grief counseling facility in Southeast Portland after their previous home was lost to arson. Kimberly Kent Art Brokerage was hired to conceive of, commission, and oversee the installation of a large donor appreciation art piece that reflects the unique nature of the client’s new space and the services they provide. Through an RFP process, we found the perfect artist to execute the concept, and worked hand in hand with both artist and client to fine tune the final product to the client’s needs. Over 100 names appear within the leaves, flowers, animals, and birds of this tree created from reclaimed metals and wood from the former Dougy Center site. This piece not only serves as the artistic centerpiece of the Center’s lobby space, but has fueled substantial fundraising toward the construction of the new facility. The flexible design allows the tree to continue to grow and expand within the lobby area in order to honor future donors.
